    Propulsion Systems

    Propellers

Strauhs propellers are designed to fulfill the conditions required for efficiency and low levels of vibration, noise, and cavitation.

The propellers can be cast in manganese bronze, aluminum bronze, or, optionally, in stainless steel. They are produced to very high quality standards and are able to satisfy any classification requirements demanded.

Manufactured with diameters of 600mm to 4000mm, with 3, 4, or 5 blades.

Besides propellers, Strauhs supplies include the design and manufacturing of propeller shafts, stern tubes, bearings, flanges, sealings, Kort nozzles, etc.

Besides the traditional propellers, such as Kaplan, Gawn, and Troost, other special models and variable pitch blades can be produced.

    Repairs to damaged propellers

We also carry out repair services to propellers, including the straightening of blades, repair of cavitation-eroded areas, and the welding of new blade tips that have been damaged or torn

    Propeller Shafts

esides propellers and Kort nozzles, our propulsion systems also include the propeller shafts. This combination allows us to supply optimized systems in terms of performance and durability.

Shafts for all classes and sizes of ships are manufactured to comply with rigorous classification standards. Shafts in sleeved carbon steel or in stainless steel.

Hollow shafts for control of the speed in propellers with controllable pitch. Can be manufactured in carbon steel or high-resistance stainless steel.

Our shafts are installed on most ships in operation in Brazil. Maximum length per section: 12 meters.

    Tubos Kort

Considerable gains of thrust and fuel economy can be achieved by using Kort nozzles. Tugs with Kort nozzles can achieve up to 40% more bollard pull in relation to that of a conventional propeller. The Kort nozzle also offers greater final speed and fuel economy.

Normally Kort nozzles 19A or 37 are used in conjunction with Kaplan propellers. Other special models can also be manufactured.

    Advantages

    • Greater thrust and bollard pull
    • Higher efficiency of propulsion
    • Propeller protection against impacts
    • Less vibration

    Bow Thrusters

We provide a line of bow thrusters and tunnel thrusters, with hydraulic drive, for various sizes of vessels.

    Lemes Flap

The flap rudders offer excellent performance whenever there is a need for high maneuverability and efficiency, with a rudder area smaller than would be required with a conventional rudder.

The articulating flap on the trailing edge doubles the rudder angle. Rudder turns 45° and flap angles additional 45° increasing manoeuvering performance and lowering fuel consumption.
